Boeing Aircraft Cost: What Each Model Really Costs to Buy
October 23, 2026
Boeing aircraft cost anywhere from about $120 million for a new 737 MAX 8 up to more than $425 million for a 777X and a fully equipped Boeing Business Jet can be over $400 million. These are list prices and what a buyer actually pays is usually much less than that. Figuring out which number applies to your situation is the first step in any serious Boeing purchase or valuation.
Boeing Aircraft Price List by Model
Boeing no longer publishes official current prices so today’s figures are from last published lists and industry estimates; they remain the standard reference point for planning.
Price rises with fuselage length, passenger capacity and range — that’s why every step a family takes up adds tens of millions of dollars.
What Boeing Customers Actually Pay
List price is not a receipt. Large airline orders have closed 40% to 60% below list; single aircraft purchases close 10% to 20% lower. A 787-9 with a list price near $300 million may transact closer to $150 million to $180 million in bulk deal.
Used market: A pre-owned 737 MAX sells for 40m-70m in 2026 (the popular MAX 8 usually around 50m-60m). Leasing is another option: new MAX 8 lease rate is thought to be somewhere between 350k-400k per month. Age, maintenance history and market demand all factor into each of these numbers.
Boeing Business Jets: When an Airliner Becomes a Private Aircraft
Boeing also builds its airliners as VIP aircraft (Boeing Business Jet program) which matters to private owners, governments and corporate flight departments.
The BBJ MAX family was priced in 2023 at about $101.5 million for the MAX 7, $110.5 million for the MAX 8 and $118.5 million for the MAX 9. Widebodies bring the price up even more. A BBJ 787 starts around $250 million to $300 million before any interior work is done; fully customized examples with private bedrooms, conference rooms and lounges can exceed $400 million.
At the top end is the BBJ 777-9 which is priced at about $453.6 million as an unfinished “green” aircraft. A completed interior from a specialist completion centre could add on the order of $100m. Late in 2026 no BBJ 777X has been delivered to a private customer so those prices are reference not recent transactions.
Why the Price on the Purchase Agreement Is Only Part of Boeing Aircraft Cost
The price on the purchase agreement is just the start of the spending — not the end. Fuel, maintenance programs, crew, insurance, hangar and handling fees, depreciation — all add up over an aircraft’s life to a figure that can rival the original acquisition cost.
This is where model choice becomes interesting. A 787 and a 737 MAX do different missions so fuel burn, maintenance profile and cost per flight hour are very different. For BBJ owner completion costs sit on top of that and refurbishment costs. Comparing options not just on sticker price but total cost of ownership tells you which fits your budget over ten years not just on delivery day.
